Preparing for Your Clinic Visit

Most of our appointments are done on the farm, there are cases that require more advanced treatment such as standing oral extractions, complex dental procedures. It may be scheduled at either our clinic in Topsfield, or Ocean State Equine Associates in Rhode Island. Our team is committed to making your horse, and your own experience as stress-free and safe as possible.

Prior to your visit our team will contact you with specific information pertaining to your horses procedure. Most cases are outpatient so your horses are able to go home same day, if the procedure is more complex than your horse may stay overnight.

What to bring

  • A halter and lead rope

  • If staying overnight please bring any medications your horse is on as well as food for the time the horse will be staying

During your horses visit

Most horses seen at our Topsfield clinic have already been evaluated, and a treatment plan has been discussed with you prior to your appointment. Your clinic visit is focused on carrying out the recommended procedure in a safe, controlled environment.

Upon arrival, a member of our team will meet you outside, to check in. Once your horse has been checked in, one of our assistants will bring them in for their procedure. Once inside a doctor will perform a brief assessment of your horse before preparing them for their scheduled procedure. Throughout the visit, your horse will be closely monitored by our experienced team to ensure their comfort and safety.

After Your Appointment

Before your horse leaves the clinic, we'll review any findings, discuss treatment performed, and provide detailed aftercare instructions. If follow-up care is recommended, we'll help you schedule your next visit.

If your horse was referred by your primary veterinarian, we will communicate our findings and treatment recommendations with them to help ensure continuity of care.
